My PhD research topic was the design of new
numerical methods and algorithms for solving
direct search optimisation problems. My thesis,
"The Use of Quadratic Interpolation
in Direct Search Optimisation", has been passed pending
typographical corrections.

Subjects taken were Operations Research, Numerical Optimisation,
Numerical Differential Equations, Combinatorics and Functional Analysis.

mathematical techniques including
Linear, Quadratic and Dynamic Programming,
Non-linear optimisation methods,
Discrete and Combinatiorial optimisation,
Operations Research methods and Critical path analysis.
- Artificial Intellegences: I have coded and researched
Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing
and Tabu Search algorithms.
Internet Programming: I have written various Applets and Dynamic Web Pages
as well as data based backed Client/Server code using both socket
and Servlet technologies. I have also been working
on a data base backed XML project for automated web site design.

- President, Middle Common Room, Clare College
- The Middle Common Room (MCR) is the College Graduate society.
The MCR is responsible for organising graduate
events (academic and social) and maintaining the
Common rooms furnishing and equipment.
As president I was the chairman for the 6 member committee
as well as delegate to various other officials.
I also had a seat on the College
Governing Body, College Council, Finance Committee and various
other college and university committees.

The MCR bar is open on Friday evenings after college dinners.
While I was bar manager the bar typically served 100-200 drinks
each Friday.

The Australian Intervarsity Choral Festivals occur annually
and last for a period of two weeks. As camp manager I
was responsible for organising accommodation and
social events for 150
choristers and musicians for the first week of the Brisbane
festival.

- QUMS main roll in the University was to run all aspect of
the society choir. The society typically staged two or three large
concerts a year, as well as a number of smaller performances.
The main concerts which QUMS undertook while I was president
each had ticket sales in excess of $AUS 10,000.
