western astrology

Most people are familiar with the most basic aspect of Astrology, their sun sign (or star sign) and usually they can name at least one aspect of the sign. Sun signs are popular because they are easily accessible in daily newspapers, magazines, and the internet.

Unfortunately, many people think that their sun sign is all that there is to astrology. There is so much more to learn then just your sun sign, like the houses of astrology, the planets, the elements, and moon phases, qualities, and much more.

I mean how many times have you heard...

"Hey, what's your sign" or even...
"When's your birthday?"
"May 23rd"
"Oh, you're a Gemini."

But soon you'll find yourself saying things like "Under which form of astrology" or something along the lines of that.

Astrology is about the interaction between the planets (including the sun and moon) and the signs, the relationship between then and their interactions are mathematically based. Each signs represents a different aspect of the whole human, Aries starts the cycle, representing the Self, and Pisces completes it, representing the mass unconscious of all mankind. In between, each other sign carries the energy of a different phase of man's evolution within the universe.

aries taurus gemini cancer leo virgo libra scorpio sagittarius capricorn aquarius pisces

There are different categories of astrology: Mundane, Electional, Horary and Natal. Natal astrology, explained here, is the most popular. It analyzes people based on their times and place of birth. There are two major types of astrology practiced today in the western world: Tropical and Sidereal. Tropical astrology, explained here, assigns each sign to a planetary ruler.

There are three phases to the horoscope construction; determination of the charts house divisions, location of the planets exact position at the time and place of birth and identification of major aspects. A person's time, date, and place of birth are good things to have to start constructing your horoscope. Where to find the exact place of birth? Try a world almanac, world atlas or a gazetteer.
