Fritillaria

A fascination genus of bulbs related to the Lily.  They come from all round the northern hemisphere with concentrations in America, China,  Greece and Turkey.  One species (F. meleargris) is found in naturally occurring in Britain but must never be collected. It is so easy from seed or from the garden centres.  The exciting varieties are found in the eastern Mediterranean.  Some take a long time to flower from seed, and just a few are notoriously difficult.  Most will never be very cheap, but are well worth growing and will stay in the open garden for years.  For the back of the border are F. imperialis, persica and pallidiflora.  To be treasured in a bulb frame or scree is F. nobilis, pudica, michailowskii.
There is a Fritillary group to join if you are interested.

Fritillaria acmopetala
A beautiful and graceful small species which can be found with many variations in the patterning. This form was grown from seed.  It grows to about 9" and spreads when settled.

In flower March 2000.  It is from seed of F. tenella.  Any suggestions on identity are most welcome.

I rasied this from seed of Fritillaria camscatensis but I feel that it may be a twin flowerd from of F. davisii.
Any suggestions on identity are most welcome.
