Okay, now is my chance to rant and rave about the evils of milk. Every animal has it's own special type of milk that it feeds to its young. Once its young are old enough, it no longer feeds them its own special milk, and the young no longer drink any type of milk. Except for humans, of course but we are a strange species after all. In Western society, we dislike seeing mothers breastfeed in general, and especially if the child is old enough to be moving about on its own. Yet instead, we tell parents to give their children the milk of another animal that is inferior to the one that their body had been producing.
Milk causes many health problems. It is often a culprit in asthma, and many people have an intolerance to lactose, a sugar in milk. What is really ironic is that instead of accepting that their bodies are trying to tell them something, they will do most anything to ensure that they drink their milk, even though it is ruining their health. Why do they do this? We don't need milk to have strong bones, there are many other superior sources of calcium out there. To name but a few source, in the plant kingdom, there is broccoli and cauliflower, various greens such as kale and endive, and even molasses is a good source. There are also the nuts (such as almonds), seeds (seseme seeds are very high in calcium), and beans that contain calcium. Dr. Atwood wrote an article entitled "Milk, A Catch-22" which is subtitled "Calcium Without The Cow." "Calcium In A Vegan Diet" has many articles to look at to obtain more information about alternatives to cow's milk.
The Dairy Industry has many links to a variety of topics surrounding the dairy industry, including dairy products, farming methods, health issues, and the veal calf problem. After reading some of these, it really makes you wonder why you should bother drinking milk anynore.
I do not expect you to suddenly agree with all that I am saying. I do, however, think that it is important that you are well-informed in regards to what you are drinking.
