Why "Kinship"?
Purpose of the Conference
We disconnected from the land after the industrial revolution, building a mechanical model of the Earth which emphasizes productivity beyond sustainability. The resulting repair costs will be passed to future generations.
The model often leads to irreversible ecosystem damage and extinctions that are sometimes "justified".
Health practitioners are linking the deterioration of human physical & mental health with the decline in natural ecosystems.
Ecopsychologists claim many of our addictive disorders are the result of attempts to fill, with drugs, alcohol and stuff the void left in our hearts when we disconnected from the natural world.
This conference will explore ways to develop caring and intimate relationships with the living systems on this Earth.
