Fiddler's Green: The Cavalryman's Hell

Fiddler's Green(Cavalry)

Halfway down the trail to Hell
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen
And this eternal resting place
is known as Fiddler's Green
Marching past, straight through to hell,
The infantry are seen,
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marine,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddler's Green.
Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene,
No trooper ever gets to Hell,
Ere he's emptied his canteen
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddler's Green.
And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen
,Or in a roaring charge or fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to you head
And go to Fiddler's Green.

Fiddler's Green: The Fisherman's Heaven

excerpt from:

Final Trawl by: Archie Fisher

Then when I die,
You can stow me down
Sing haul away, my laddie-o
In her rusty hold
Where the breakers sound
Sing haul away, my laddie-o
And then I'll make the haven
of Fiddler's Green
Sing haul away, my laddie-o
Where the grub is good,
And the bunks are clean
Sing haul away,
my laddie-o

Fiddler's Green: According to the Tragically Hip

Excerpt from:

Fiddler's Greenby: The Tragically Hip
September Seventeen
For a girl I know it's Mother's Day
Her son has gone alee
And that's were he will stay
Wind on the weathervane
Tearing blue eyes sailor-mean
As Falstaff sings a sorrowful refrain
For a boy in Fiddler's Green
