This is another tragic case where complaints were made for years, starting in 1987, to CHS yet a horse still died. In March of 1990, one horse was found starved to death in a rented tobacco barn. Six other horses were rescued - emaciated. CHS had received complaints as recently as January 1990. The horses were confined to the barn with no food or water for most of February. Police learned that the horses were starving when the company that owned the barn sent a representative to collect back rent. The rep found an 8 year old Appaloosa mare had collapsed and the others were emaciated. The owner was charged with cruelty to animals. This was another case where the owner was degreed in animal care and still let this happen.
