After her first two cats got hit by cars, Jessica was once more
looking for another. Finally, she found a family with a kitten to give away, so she brought the
little orange and gray ball of fur home in her backpack! She was very cute, a gray tabby
with orange patches on her back, and in the way of many female cats she was very prissy. She hates to have her fur
mussed up! It took Jessica a week to name her, but we finally decided on "Samantha". Somehow,
it just fit. Samantha weighs only two thirds of what Sox and Tigger do, and she is so
small many mistake her for an adolescent! But she is 9 years old, so
she's done all the growing she's going to do. Samantha is a definite "people-cat", since she loves
to sit by us to see what we're doing, especially yard work. In the winter she curls up into
a little ball on a person's lap and sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps, and she's so cute! During
the summer time she doesn't like laps nearly as much, but she still loves attention.
She isn't usually a wanderer like Tigger is, but one time fairly recently she disappeared for two
months. We couldn't figure it out, and we went to the Humane Society, put up posters, you
name it, and we still couldn't find her. We were sure we'd lost her, but then,
on Christmas morning, she showed up! At 4:00 am, Dad woke up to hear meowing at the
back door, he opened it and there she was! She was sopping wet from the snow, and
her paws and ears were mildy frost-bitten. She had been out in the cold for some
time, it appears, but we got the best Christmas present of all when she showed up! So, we
have two holiday cats, both her and Tigger! That's pretty weird!
