Belgrano: Argentine patriot. Participated in May Revolution. Without militar experience he had to command militar expeditions to Paraguay and Bolivia being defeated in both cases. He created the national flag

Brasil: during much of his time as Portuguese colony Brasil had a kind of obsession with the Banda Oriental, in the east of Río de la Plata, which caused several battles with Argentina and Uruguay as Spanish colonies. It worsened when the kings of Portugal moved to Brasil escaping from Napoleonīs army. During much of the time the defensive burden was almost entirely over the people of Montevideo with some help from Buenos Aires. Later, after Argentine independence, Brasilian navy put Buenos Aires under siege starting an open war which ended with the defeat of Brasil and Uruguay becoming a separate country.
