Faust is an ancient tale of a man whose thirst for knowledge led him to sell his
soul to the devil in exchange for the powers to fulfill his quest. Dr. Faustus
believed that by aquiring knowledge he could unlock the secret to what makes one
truly happy. Only when he had found true contenment could the devil claim his soul.
In Goethe's "Faust", which is arguably the greatest version of this story, the
good doctor is redeemed due to the fact that in his quest for knowledge he learned
the value of life and many of its simpler pleasures. He thus turned his powers
to acts of good and kindness toward his fellow humans (much to the devil's
chagrin). Therefore God redeemed him as being a truly good person who had used
his faculties to examine life. The power of communication unleashed by the internet
goes far beyond anything even old Faustus dreamed of. Similarly, this power can be
used for either good or evil. This site is dedicated to the harnessing of this
power in pursuit of knowledge for the good of all human kind. Just as Dr. Faustus
learned in his quest, this search often leads to places of shadow and darkness
as well as light and redemption, regions of perversity and planes at the height
of holiness. May this site be a guide to you in your journey and may the Lord
be with you!
Thank you for visiting the Faustus Com-Port. Please visit again as it will be growing over the next few weeks and will eventually include links to art, music, literature, philosophy, theology, recreation, and communications resources to facilitate your quest for knowledge. The knowledge which shall liberate humanity. We await your return!
