Mnemosyne, Titan of Memory
Mnemosyne, a titan, was the daughter of the Primitive sky-god Uranus and the earth-goddess Ge. Mnemosyne means 'Memory'. Zeus came to her on nine consecutive nights and she gave birth to the nine Muses, the goddesses of fine arts, music and literature. The Muses were; Clio, muse of History, Urania, muse of Astronomy, Calliope, muse of Epic Poetry, Euterpe, muse of Lyric Poetry, Erato, muse of Love Poetry, Melpomene, muse of Tragedy, Thalia, muse of Comedy, Terpsichore, muse of Dance, Polyhymnia, muse of Songs to the Gods
Mnemosyne Today
Mnemosyne has been played by Jan Hellriegel, who also played Hestia, on Xena and Donogh Rees on Hercules. Donogh married New Zealand painter Richard McWhannell in 1984. To see Jan Hellriegel's filmography and links go to the Hestia page.
