Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth
Hestia, the
sister of Zeus, was known as a virgin Goddess, but was most
commonly referred to as the Goddess of the Hearth, the symbol of
the home, which a newborn child is carried around before being
received into the family. Each city had it's own public hearth
dedicated to Hestia, which was kept lit at all times. Hestia is
known as the most charitable and upright of the Olympian Gods.
