Participate in the detailed research, planning and delivery of a Unit debate on a topic that examines common beliefs or values.

On the 4th of October 99 we prepared with Jon & his father helping us out. We then had the debate on the 11/10/99 it was a t Gosford Scout Hall and we lost 3 to nil. The topics I was involved in included:

We did not do as well as I expected but we still enjoyed ourselves. The adjudicator was Ron Blomfield.

Visit Clergy / Lay members & investigate the organisation, role and effectiveness of the church in the local community.

On the 9th of May 2000 Sebastian and I visited the Lutheran Church in West Gosford. They were holding lay members meeting where they discuss the running of the church and what they should do. Some things that they do include Bible Study groups, Women groups, Dinners, Community involvement & The M.A.P. course which is based on getting their meaning & beliefs across to the local community (which for them is the whole central coast). The Lutheran church differs from Christian denominations, as they believe that Christ is with them and not just a memorial of him. Another way they differ is that they have no really strong day to day beliefs especially things such as meat on Good Friday. One last important thing is their beliefs towards baptism. They believe that somebody shouldnt be babtised until they are old enough to choose for themselves. They are also relatively smaller with approximately 200 people on the central coast. Despite such a small size they still thriving due to the way they blend into the community through the elders who are very involved in the community. I found going to the Lutheran church quite interesting, as I havent had much involvement with outside religions. It also added more importance to things like scouts own.

Make contact with a voluntary community service organisation and then report on how it is organised and what needs it meets in the recipient and volunteer.

On the 10th of May 2000 I made inquiries at St. Johns Ambulance in Gosford about volunteering to assist them over the Olympic games period. I decided whilst I was there to also to find out a bit more about the organisation and how it works. They suggested visiting their web site www.stjohn.org.au. I did so, and attached is a print out of the information I found out.

To become a volunteer you must:

Unfortunately at time of inquirery I was not 16 and were unable to volunteer however I have put my name down on their mail list for updates and hope to join at a later date..

Pursuits

For my pursuit I have chosen computers. I already have quite a good knowledge of computers and my plan its to put my knowledge into practise by Building my own computer from new and used computer parts which I will obtain from home and the Gosford & Terrigal computer markets.

Desired / Needed System Requirements:

Budget is flexible but I would like it to be between $500.00 and $850.00. I feel this is enough to make a system capable of running the software and equipment I currently need. Some of the things I need are more space due to programs becoming larger and larger and faster graphics card in order to run some of the latest games. Ram is required in large amounts these days to run anything. I shall get the hardware from the Terrigal computer fair, which is held at Terrigal basketball stadium. At the stadium wholesalers have new and used computer parts for sale which excludes sales tax and store costs. I need to purchase the equipment before G.S.T. because the sales tax will no longer apply and there will be virtually no difference between shops and the markets. The system I have decided to run will be Win95 using Office 97 for data processing. Other software I will be running include:

I started by attending the computer fair on the _________of _________ . There I purchased:

I then proceeded to construct it during the holidays. I took photos to show my progression. I took these with a digital camera that I borrowed from a friend and thn munipulated and edited them using the computer I built. In fact this whole web page was created on my new computer.

I then met up with my examiner John Griffiths after school on the __________ of _______. We discussed what I had learned from the project and we both felt that I had furthered my knowledge of computers and increased my skills (especially typing speed).
