Cheetahs (continued)

The cheetah can go from a complete standstill to 45 mph in 2.5 seconds! It is believed that it can accelerate to nearly 70 mph, however the fastest they have been clocked is 60 mph. They can maintain their top speed for about five hundred yards before overheating and fatigue set in.

Hunting

While running at their top speed cheetahs are even able to  make sharp turns without losing their balance. The cheetah's ability to accelerate is the key to its survival abilities in its habitat because it is able to overcome the speed and acceleration of gazelles, its primary food source.

Social Order

Adult males usually live alone or in small bachelor groups, tending not to be territorial. Females however will guard their territory fiercely against other females. Cheetahs don't roar like lions, but they purr, hiss, whine and growl. They also make a variety of contact calls, the most common is a birdlike chirping sound.
