Apple Pie at a Rib Shack
(“To the Moon and Back” by Savage Garden)
by that one crazy girl. And that other one.
created during advisory/a college fair/World Literature class

She’s baking a pie with the apple pieces
shoo away all the buzzing flies
All her pans have been greased for baking
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees

She’s sayin’ look at all the people here
Look at all the grease they smear
Why am I working at a rib shack?
I could be a gourmet baker
With a silver plated salt shaker
Instead I’m working at this rib shack I’m going to cry
(In this apple pie)

Apple pie at a rib shack
and a glob, and a glob of ice cream
Apple pie à la mode - that’s French it means
“With a glob of ice cream”

She rolls the pastry flat
to make a great crust
Gotta watch out for the barbeque sauce
On her bowls there is dried up batter
from pancakes she made yesterday

She’s sayin’ I’ve got pie all over my face
I wanna get out of this place
This shack is greasy and my spatula’s broken
Oh the oven’s leaking oil
the range has busted a coil
Now I’m waiting for the right kind of head cook to come
(I’ll complain to him)

Apple pie at a rib shack
This place is gross, and it has no class
The vinyl seats are sticky from grime and grease
and there’s steak sauce all over the floo-oor, oor-oor

...at a rib shack...
...steak sauce all over the floo-oor, oor-oor...
