to my son, Andrew and everyone who has or knows someone who has diabetes.
He was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes when he was 16 months old on August
18, 1992. It was a hard time. He was diagnosed 2 weeks after his MMR and
Hib vaccines. I believe that the vaccines are what caused / triggered his
diabetes. I reported it to VAERS
(Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) as soon as possible. I asked VAERS
to send me the reports of others who were diagnosed with diabetes after
either a MMR vaccine or a Hib vaccine or a combination of both. It was
a very interesting report. There were 19 cases "reported" from reports
received between July 1, 1990 and November 7, 1994. There was even a report
from Tennessee of a little girl a month older than my son that received
the same vaccines. The Hib was with the same lot number and manufacturer.
She was diagnosed less than 2 weeks after she was given the MMR & Hib
vaccines. I feel there is a link. Feel free to tell me your experiences
and maybe if you want to share your feelings with a Mom who knows how you
feel. There needs to be more parents and guardians aware of VAERS
as this is a very valuable reporting system. And should there be a link
between the vaccines and the onset of diabetes...the quickest way to know
is having everyone take the time to report the adverse events. Please help
spread the word of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. It is important!
