General Manager Neil Smith stated that the abdominal injury Cherneski
sustained in February was not a major concern when it came time for the Rangers
to make their selection. Team doctors felt the injury is not serious and either
time or surgery will repair the injury. Smith regarded Cherneski highly, stating
that 50 goals was not out of his reach in juniors and that Cherneski will most
likely play at least two more years in juniors.
