OK, folks, we're gonna pull a WCW here. Neither The Deadly Syns nor
The Fighting Heroes submitted a strat for their match this week, so it's going to be dropped from
the card with no form of explanation whatsoever on the show (don't you hate when they do
that?).
PERRY SANDERS vs. MASTER HUANG FEI
HONG
Perry took the match to Hong quickly from the start, taking him over with a
hiptoss, followed by another, before grabbing Hong on the rebound and connecting with a
sidewalk slam. Going to the top rope, Perry showed off his arial skills by nailing Hong with a
moonsault. Looking for a quick win, Perry pulled Hong up and nailed not one, but TWO Death
Valley drivers before applying the Vengeance. Knowing that he was overmatches, Hong
nodded in submission after only a few moments to give Perry his first win in over six
months.
After his win, Perry made his way back to the dressing room, stopping for a moment to grab a
bottle of water. As he gulped it down, Perry was ambushed by The Legion of Heroes! After
triple-teaming DNL's close ally, MMX, Ying, and Yang dragged "The Avenger" down the
corridor, tossed him into a janitor's closet, and barricaded the door shut before heading for their
dressing room to prepare for MMX's title shot.
MMP Saturday Night Slams is on the air! The MMP Coliseum is sold out with more than 15,
000 fans buzzing in anticipation of tonight's big event. Commentators Jerry Wood and Ray
Brewer are at ringside.
Wood: Welcome, everyone, to MMP Saturday Night Slams! I'm Jerry
Wood alongside Ray Brewer where tonight we have four huge championship matches on tap for
you, including our triple main event this evening where the world, universal, and television
championships will all be decided in high profile matches. Headlining the card tonight is Captain
Patrick O'Conner, still the world champion after the dangerous game match at the PPV this past
Wednesdsay, as he defends the gold against his longtime rival, The Cult Master, inside the
ominous Hell in a Cell that hangs above the ring right in front of us.
Brewer: We also have a lumberjack match for the TV title when, after nearly two months at one
another's throats, "Stunning" Steve Simon and The Joker's Child will meet one on one for the
very first time. As an added twist to this match, Virus Richards will serve as the special guest
referee this evening. Virus has already told everyone that he will not count any submissions
tonight, but has promised to count the pinfall for either man be it Joker, his partner in the tag
team championships, or Simon, his ally in The Syndicate. A three way ladder match for the
universal title is also set for tonight with The Bootlegger defending against both The Ryno and
Daark, as well as an elimination match that I will be watching with particular interest as my good
friend Onyx Cooper, The Regulator, battles The Cec's World Order in an elimination
match.
Wood: All that and much more set to come tonight, but we kick things off with the first of four
championship matches as Dr. No Limit puts the midwestern championship up for grabs against
former TV champion Masked Man X. Let's go to the ring for the opening bout!
MMP Midwestern Championship Match
DR. NO LIMIT (C)
vs. MASKED MAN X
The Legion of Heroes were preparing to make their way out for the match
when DNL's crew decided to exact some revenge for the assault on Perry Sanders that had
occured moments earlier. DNL, Zane, and Charles were dressed as The Man of Steel,
Ironman, and Cyclops respectively as they ambushed MMX, Ying, and Yang just behind the
curtain to the entrance way. Then, from out of nowhere, a man wearing a Ronald Reagan mask
came in and nailed DNL in the kidneys with a pair of blows with a wooden axhandle. DNL
went down clutching his side in pain as the man removed his mask and tossed it at DNL,
revealing only a black mask underneath. The brawl continued out into the arena with Zane and
Charles battling The Fighting Heroes while MMX continued to pound on DNL's kidneys as they
headed towards the ring. Quickly tossing the reigning midwestern champion into the ring, MMX
grabbed DNL by the back of the head and slammed him repeatedly into the turnbuckle before
taking him down with a dropkick. Pulling DNL back to his feet, MMX whipped his opponent
across the ring into the far turnbuckle, but his overanxiety got the best of him as he charged in
with an avalanche only to have DNL sidestep and send him crashing into the turnbuckle. While
MMX was stunned, DNL rushed him and nailed a clothesline from behind against the
cornerpads before whipping him across the ring into the far buckle and nailing an avalanche of
his own. This one didn't miss, and MMX took the full brunt of DNL's larger frame in the chest
and collapsed to the canvas. DNL didn't let up, pulling MMX back to his feet and manuevering
him over to the ropes, tossing him off the far side and catching him on the rebound with a
spinebuster. With the brawl between Zane, Charles, and The Fighting Heroes continuing on the
outside, DNL nailed MMX with a running legdrop off the ropes before setting him up on the top
rope in position for a superplex. Before DNL could lift MMX off the corner, the challenger
grabbed tightly onto the top rope and shrugged DNL off, sending the champion falling back out
to the middle of the ring. After taking a second to shake the cobwebs, MMX re-positioned
himself on the top rope and came off with a double axhandle blow to the head, dropping DNL
to one knee. Before DNL could pull himself up, MMX nailed him with a short running dropkick
that put the champion flat on his back. MMX made the cover, but DNL escaped after only two
to save his title, at least for the time being. As DNL used the ropes to pull himself back to his
feet, MMX laid into him with a series of chops to the chest that backed him into the corner,
where MMX climbed the buckle and nailed punches to his opponent's head as the crowd
counted along. The crowd got to ten and let out a cheer, but while MMX stopped to bask in
the appreciation of the fans, DNL regained his senses enough to take advantage of MMX's
positioning and shrug him over the top rope to the floor. MMX landed hard on the concrete
after dropping nearly ten feet, clearly swaying the momentum of the match. DNL quickly took
advantage, following MMX out to the floor, picking him up, and dropping him throat first along
the metal safety rail before rolling him back into the ring. Then DNL made what could have
been a critical mistake. With MMX down DNL went to the top rope and, sending a message to
Tao Te Ching who had ambushed him a week earlier, attempted the Essential Flash. The move
was, however, outside the range of a man the size of the midwestern champion, and the extra
time it needed to get set allowed MMX to roll out the way, sending DNL crashing to the canvas.
MMX then decided to take the match to the air. MMX, however, was moving at a slowed
pace, apparently having difficulty breathing after the shot to the throat on the outside. Climbing
to the top, MMX got set just as DNL was getting to his feet. MMX changed his gameplan in
mid-move and went for a flying bodypress, but DNL caught him in mid-air. Hoisting MMX up
on his shoulders, DNL took a couple of steps towards the center of the ring before connecting
with the Michigan Death Driver!! A mild chorus of boos filled the arena as DNL made the
cover. Making a mockery out of Wolverine in this manner was an unpopular move with the
fans, but it did lead to a three count and a victory for Dr. No Limit.
Wood: A big win for Dr. No Limit, albeit by unpopular means here at the
MMP Coliseum. The Wolverine situation has touched a spot with alot of the fans over the past
couple of weeks, and they certainly didn't seem to appreciate DNL's insult by stealing one of
Wolverine's trademark moves to win the match against Masked Man X. If Wolverine is able to
come back to action, I'm sure he'll be right on DNL's backside for that one.
Brewer: You know something, I'm starting to like DNL. I'll bet Wolverine will be livid when he
sees the tape of tonight's match and will be striving even more than ever to come back, and
that's what DNL wants. He knows that a lot of the guys backstage are scoffing at the way he
won the midwestern title, and he knows that the only way to legitimize the reign is to beat the
man who was forced to forfeit the title, and that's Wolverine. If he has to do something like this
to push Wolverine into making a comeback, well, I can't say I blame him. A man has to do
what a man has to do.
Wood: I don't necessarily agree with that assertion, but it's about the kind of reaction I would
expect out of you. You and Bobby were never on good terms, and I know there's a part of you
that's reveling in his situation. My best wishes go out to that young man, who I understand is
making a recovery and could be back in action within the next couple of months. Our next
contest should be a very emotional contest as The Destroyer takes on the brash newcomer
Steve Fermosa. As if things weren't bad enough after Fermosa humiliated The Cult on national
TV last weekend, Fermosa's victory over The Cult Master at Apocalypse only added fuel to the
fire of the former two-time extreme champion. How will Fermosa hold up against the big man?
Let's go to the ring to find out.
THE DESTROYER vs. "STUPENDOUS" STEVE
FERMOSA
After Fermosa's usual grand entrance, The Destroyer came to the ring very
quickly with a no-nonsense look on his face. That determination showed throughout the match,
with the big man taking the fight to the newcomer right from the opening bell. As he stepped
through the ropes, Destroyer kept a keen eye on his opponent to make sure Fermosa didn't try
an early sneak attack, but then tore right into his adversary, clubbing Fermosa with a series of
forearm smashes to the head before picking him up and nailing a devastating backbreaker.
Fermosa was in serious trouble in the opening moments. The big man didn't let up, pulling
Fermosa back to his feet only to apply a bearhug, hoisting Fermosa up off the canvas and
shaking him back and forth like a rag doll. A thumb to the eye from Fermosa forced the break
of the hold, but Destroyer was phased only momentarily. Before Fermosa could regroup,
Destroyer hit him with a solid kick to the midsection followed by a big powerbomb. Fermosa
squirmed in pain on the canvas, but wasn't able to get away from the massive Destroyer who
reached down and applied the Will Breaker! Obviously feeling the effects of Destroyer's assault
on his back, Fermosa could only hold on for a few moments before shaking his head "yes" and
surrendering the match. Destroyer released the hold, but wasn't about to let Fermosa escape
that easily. Grabbing Fermosa by the hair, Destroyer hoisted him up for another powerbomb,
but this time the big man sent Fermosa out over the top rope, landing him back first against the
safety rail. As Destroyer started to make his exit, a giant Cult symbol started lowering from
above - the same one that lowered from the helicopter at Shea Stadium on Wednesday night.
While this grabbed the big man's attention, Hyoga appeared on the giant video screen.
Hyoga: "Destroyer, i have to admit that you gave me a great challenge in the ring on
Wednesday, as you proved to be a more than worthy opponent to me, and i shall congratulate
for your win. However, i believe that if i had been more heavy when i faced you, the victory
would have been mine! Also, it was supposed to be a hardcore match, yet we wrestled almost
like if it had been a standard match, which i think wasn't what the fans expected. So i challenge
you for a re-match, either in the next hardcore Saturday Night or at the PPV. Same stipulations,
but I'll be stronger and better built than ever by then, and i promise that this time I WILL
powerbomb you before making of you the first to experiment my new finisher, a particularly
deadly chokeslam !!"
Destroyer looked up briefly at the screen, apparently lost in contemplation before solemnly
turning his head away and heading back to the dressing room.
Wood: A dominant performance by The Destroyer in making short work
out of Steve Fermosa, but now another challenge has been thrown in his path. I guess Hyoga
feels that he didn't put his best foot forward in the match this past Wednesday.
Brewer: I will give Hyoga credit for having guts, but The Destroyer is not a guy that I would
want to face more times than I had to. When you get a guy that size and give him the desire to
maim people, you get someone that is better left for other people to deal with. I'm still trying to
figure out why Hyoga thought he could powerbomb Destroyer at Apocalypse, but the notion
that he could get the job done if he had another chance, to me, is absurd. There are cranes that
couldn't lift that guy. He's like a physically fit version of The Masked Lard...or Brick
Stevens.
Wood: I'm sure we'll hear an answer to that challenge in the very near future, as I have never
known The Destroyer, or any member of The Cult for that matter, to pass up a chance to try
and prove their supremacy. Ray, you mentioned Brick Stevens? Well, Brick Stevens is up next
as a member of The Cec's World Order, who is about to do battle with The Regulator in a 5-
on-1 elimination match. Can The Regulator beat five men? Let's go to the ring.
Elimination Match
THE REGULATOR vs. THE CEC'S
WORLD ORDER
The Imperial March blared over the loudspeaker and an array of green
lasers filled the entrance way as The Regulator came to the ring, with Loui Slugger in hand and
his battlemask over his face. Reg looked back impatiently for the CWO, who was spotted
backstage only just making their way into the building with the rest of the Family. China Town
Lee was berating Brick for weighing the car down, saying that they would have been there
sooner if not for him. The CWO members were immediately directed towards the ring.
Welfare William was the first man in to try his luck against Reg, but he didn't last long. Reg met
him immediately with a kick to the midsection before setting William on the top rope and lifting
him up in a superplex. Rather than finishing the suplex off, Reg dropped William face first out to
the floor. The referee started to count, and ten seconds later William was counted out. Hobo
Richard then ran into the ring, but he didn't fare much better. Richard charged at Reg with a
clothesline, but Onyx ducked and applied a full nelson. He then swept Richard's feet out from
under him and slammed him face first into the canvas before turning the move into the Pinch.
Richard tapped out after only seconds, and was sent back to the dressing room. Watching
backstage, The Joker's Child was visibly angry with the CWO's performance, and never saw
Daark coming up on him from behind. Grabbing Joker by the back of the head, Daark slammed
Joker head first into the television monitor and nailed a DDT on the floor before disappearing
back into the shadows. Back in the ring, China Town Lee was now trying his luck, but he didn't
last much longer than the men that preceeded him. Reg sent a weak kick towards Lee's
midsection, but surprisingly China Town caught it. Lee reacted as if he had completely
outsmarted his opponent, but Reg nailed him with an insigury kick to the back of the head. Lee
went down and Reg rolled him over for the three count. After setting his bottle of Jack Daniels
down in the corner, Mr. Beumont came in, but just as was the case with Lee, he was met with a
kick to the midsection. Beumont, however, didn't catch the kick and Regulator then picked him
up and nailed the Break, hooking the leg for the pin. After only a couple of minutes, it was
down to one-on-one. As the drastically overweight Brick Stevens slowly pushed his way
through the ropes, Reg went to his corner and grabbed Loui Slugger. Before Brick could even
get near him, Reg turned back and went after him with a flurry of shots with the baseball bat.
The referee called for the bell and disqualified Regulator, awarding the win to the CWO.
Regulator was livid. Grabbing the referee by the lapels, Reg started screaming at the so-called
incompetent official as the arena lights went out. Amazing Grace started to play and a spotlight
came down on the entrance way where The Saint was standing with a microphone:
Saint- REGULATOR THERE COMES ATIME IN EVERY MAN LIFE WHERE HE
SHOULD ADMIT TO HIS CRIMES AND PAY THE PRICE.
Before Saint could finish, the lights came back on. The Joker's Child and Psychotic Sam were
in the ring behind Reg. Joker nailed Reg across the back with a steel chair and Sam slapped on
the Psycho's Punishment. With Reg defenseless, Joker pulled out a pair of scissors and cut a
large chunk out of Regulator's hair. He then called Sam off and headed back to the dressing
room, but not before Sam grabbed Loui and took it backstage with him.
Wood: Any thoughts on this, Ray? I never thought I'd say it, but The
Regulator has been defeated by the CWO.
Brewer: I don't mind, it's about time somebody laid a good old fashioned baseball bat beating on
one of those slobs. If it takes a loss to do it, hell, maybe that's a fair trade. But that little stunt
with the hair clipping is really starting to get out of hand. Some day soon it's all going to catch up
to Joker, and that someday may well be here tonight when he finally has to face Steve
Simon.
Wood: That's a very good point, Ray, and as you know The Regulator will be among the
lumberjacks on the outside of the ring during the TV title match. We've got one more match to
go before we get to Simon and Joker, and that match is for the universal championship. Three
men will battle it out in a ladder match, but only one will come away with possession of the
unviersal title. The Bootlegger has held the title for nearly six months. Could tonight be the night
that someone finally takes that belt away from him? We'll find out in a matter of moments, as we
send you back to the ring.
MMP Universal Championship
Triple Threat Ladder
Match
THE BOOTLEGGER (C) vs. DAARK vs. THE RYNO
The defending champion came to the ring first, accompanied by both The
Regulator and Betty. Holding both the official and Bootlegger's custom made universal
championship belts high above for all to see, Bootlegger latched them to the metal ring that
would soon be suspended above the squared circle. As the belts headed into the heavens, the
crowd burst into cheers. Bootlegger turned around just in time to get nailed with a spear to the
midsection from the charging Ryno even before the challengers could be introduced. The bell
sounded, and the match was underway. With Ryno pounding away on Bootlegger, Daark came
running out to get involved and Dr. No Limit made his way down to stand behind Ryno and
keep an eye on Regulator at ringside. Ryno was on top of Bootlegger, pounding on him with
rights and lefts to the head before Daark grabbed him by the head and pulled him off. Nailing
Ryno with a flurry of chops to the chest, Daark backed the former world champion into the
corner while The Bootlegger took advantage of the breather his two opponents had afforded
him and slid quickly out to the floor to regroup. Daark's assault moved upward, hitting Ryno
with some thrusts to the throat before taking him down with a running lariat. Ryno didn't stay
down but Daark didn't let up, bouncing off the ropes for another attack when Bootlegger
reached in from the outside and grabbed Daark's leg, pulling The Cult member down to the
canvas. With Daark down Ryno went to work, stomping Daark in the small of the back before
pulling him up and nailing a DDT. Ryno pulled Daark up again but when he did he was met with
a lariat to the back of the head from Bootlegger, who had slid into the ring while the others
battled. Bootlegger delivered a series of stomps to the chest before pulling Ryno up, throwing
him backwards with a fallaway slam right into Daark, who was just getting back to his feet.
Both opponents were down in the ring, and Bootlegger decided it was time to make his move
for the ladder. Heading out to the runway, Bootlegger grabbed the ladder and folded it up,
carrying it under his arm back to the ring. As Bootlegger set the ladder on the apron and shoved
it into the ring, Ryno nailed Daark with a piledriver. Ryno followed up quickly, but was met with
a battering ram shot to the back with the ladder from Bootlegger. The Italian gangster tossed
the ladder aside and stood proudly over Ryno, leering down at and mocking his opponent rather
than making an attempt at the belts. This proved costly, as Daark was playing possum behind
both men, not as injured by the piledriver as they believed. While Bootlegger continued his rant,
Daark shot a forearm up squarely into Bootlegger's groin, doubling the Italian over and
eventually sending him to the canvas writhing in pain. Daark's attack remained focused,
grabbing Bootlegger's legs and splitting them in a wishbone before dropping an elbow across the
knee. Ryno slowly made his way back to his feet clutching his back, but was quickly met with a
kick to the midsection and a swinging neckbreaker from Daark, who was starting to take control
of the match, or so he thought. Stumbling back up, Bootlegger jabbed a thumb into Daark's eye
and nailed him with a chokeslam before collapsing back to the canvas. The sold-out crowd was
on it's feet cheering as the match continued with all three men and the ladder all lying flat on the
canvas in the center of the arena. The three men started to stir, and the first man up was
Bootlegger, drawing a loud chorus of boos from the fans. He set the ladder in the corner and
climbed to the top rope, and as Ryno started back to his feet he rode the ladder down onto his
logntime rival, crushing Ryno under the steel. Bootlegger, however, may have gotten the worst
of it, as his knee seemed to wrench between two of the steps, causing the Italian to roll towards
his corner, grabbing his leg in pain. Daark wasn't about to let Bootlegger get away this time and
pulled the champion up, nailing him with an inverted bulldog right in front of Regulator. Seeing
Bootlegger's bad leg, Daark quickly pulled him out towards the middle of the ring and slapped
on the Purgatory sharpshooter. With the other two men occupied, Ryno grabbed the ladder, set
it up, and started towards the top. Bootlegger's title was in jeopardy, and to the rescue came
The Masked Lard. Cutting up through the ring with a steak knife, the Lard rolled up into the
ring and pushed the ladder over, hot-shotting Ryno across the top rope. The big man then tried
to smother Ryno with a meatball sandwich, trying to stuff it down his throat. DNL, however,
wasn't going to let Ryno go down that easily. He too jumped in the ring and onto the Lard's
back, hammering the masked man on the top of the head and pulling with all his strength to try
and get the 500-pounder off his Untouchables ally. While this was happening, The Regulator
jumped into the ring and nailed Daark with a kick to the head, forcing him to break the
sharpshooter and letting Bootlegger crawl over to try and re-position the ladder. Regulator
grabbed Daark by the ankles and pulled him out of the ring, but Daark shrugged Reg off,
sending him hard into the safety rail. By this time Bootlegger was making his way up the ladder,
but Ryno wasn't done yet. After being saved from the attack by the Lard, Ryno was back to his
feet and had caught up to the slow moving champion. Grabbing Bootlegger off the ladder, Ryno
nailed the Ryno Charge from more than six feet off the canvas. Ryno then returned the favor
from earlier in the evening, standing over Bootlegger and berating the Syndicate member first
with words and then with closed fists to the head. Behind Ryno's back, however, Daark was
making his move. By the time Ryno turned around, Daark was at the top. Reaching up towards
the grail that had eluded him so many times before, Daark grabbed both universal championship
belts and the ref called for the bell. Daark had won the universal title!!! Only moments after the
final bell, The Destroyer came running down to the ring with a golf club in hand. While Daark
held Regulator back, Destroyer climbed into the ring and immediately went after Bootlegger.
Hammering repeatedly at Bootlegger's injured leg, Destroyer looked almost unstoppable. Ryno
stayed by ringside to see the show while Daark and Regulator brawled on the floor. DNL kept
the Lard occupied, and Bootlegger was at Destroyer's mercy. It wasn't until The Cult Master
appeared on the giant video screen and spoke some words in a strange arcane language that
Destroyer relinquished his attack and headed solemnly to the back.
Wood: After nearly six months with Bootlegger as the titleholder, we have a
new universal champion! Daark has unseated the Syndicate member, bringing home The Cult's
first taste of championship glory in many months.
Brewer: It looks like Bootlegger is leaving in rough shape tonight. Not only does he not have his
two title belts, he may have suffered a serious leg injury. He got his foot caught in the rungs of
the ladder earlier, and this attack by The Destroyer can't help. I'd be surprised if he was able to
serve as a lumberjack in our next matchup.
Wood: Bootlegger may be the only exception, however, as all other members of The Syndicate
and The Family will surround the ring area to keep outside interference away as Steve Simon
and The Joker's Child finally meet head to head for the first time in the MMP. It's arguably the
biggest TV title match we've ever had on Saturday Night Slams.
