January 5, 2000 - The Potomac
Intermediate School basketball team started the new year right, with an impressive win over Mater Dei 58-39. |
Potomac knew this was going to be a hard fought battle, and it was. Potomac didn't shoot well early, allowing Mater Dei to take a 12-11 lead after the first quarter. Potomac came back strong in the second quarter, shooting better and forcing turnovers to take a 24-19 lead at the half. The game stayed close in the third quarter, but again the Panthers played good defense and took advantage of some timely turnovers. In the fourth quarter, The panthers just wore down Mater Dei to finish strong with a 19 point win. The difference in this game was Potomac's ability to take care of the ball. The Panthers only had 4 turnovers while forcing Mater Dei to turn it over often throughout the game. |
Michael Fischer led the way for Potomac with 22 points followed by Chris McNerney (11), Marcus Ginyard (10), and Robbie dePicciotto (7). Marcus Ginyard had 4 steals which led to some easy buckets. Bernard Johnson had two nice assists at the end of the game to Robbie dePicciotto, the last one for a three pointer at the buzzer. |
