February 27, 1999 - In the second round of the 7th grade Bullis
Tournament, the Potomac 7th grade basketball team beat Mater Dei 51-29 to advance to the
Championship game against St Albans. |
Potomac came out and played another solid game, jumping all over Mater Dei
from start to finish. The Panther's suffocating defense only gave up 10 points in
the first half on their way to a 27-10 lead at half time. In the second half, Potomac stayed consistent on the offensive end, pumping in double digit points in each quarter. Potomac shot 20-43 from the field and 11-15 from the free throw line. The Panthers had 36 team rebounds and double digit assists (13) and steals (12). This game was another team effort with every player contributing to the outcome. Michael Fischer and Brent Locey led Potomac's scoring effort with 11 points each, followed by Chris McNerney with 8, Michael Murphy with 7, and Robbie dePicciotto with 6 points (a perfect 2-2 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line). Pete Dalla recorded 3 assists and 3 steals in the game. Potomac's record improves to 12-2 for the season with the win.
