Game 8 Summary: Potomac 42 St Albans 45

February 10, 1999 - In the eighth game of the season, the Potomac 7th grade basketball team lost a close one to St Albans 42-45 on the road.

This game played up to its billing.  St Albans was undefeated and talented and Potomac knew they could play with them.  In the first quarter the lead changed hands several times. St Albans demonstrated that they were a threat from both inside and outside and led 13-12 at the end of the quarter.  The second quarter was more of the same with the Panthers taking the lead late in the quarter to only see St Albans come back with some drives to the basket to take a one point 23-22 half time lead.

In the third quarter, St Albans pulled out to a 5 point lead, but the Panthers played hard and wouldn't go away.  In the fourth quarter, The Panther out played St Albans by pounding the offensive board, hustling in their full court press, and hitting free throws.   Potomac pulled with in one point near the end of the game and trapped a player forcing him to double dribble, which the referee didn't notice.  In order for Potomac to have a chance they were forced to stop the clock by fouling.  St Albans hit two free throws to put them up by 3 with 6 seconds left.  Brent Locey threw a touch down pass up the court to Michael Fischer who put up a nice three point shot at the buzzer, but it just didn't go.

Potomac's scoring effort was led by Brent Locey with 23 points followed by Michael Fischer with 8 points.  Pete Dalla and Chris McNerney scored 4 points each.   Brent also pulled down 14 rebounds.  Chris and Brent  each had 2 block shots.  Potomac's record falls to 6-2 for the season with the loss.
