Rusty Wallace
The New Millennium Cont.
Bud Pole Award number five came
at
Pocono June 15th . Here, Rusty led most
of the race only to have a four-tires-versus-
two decision put him too far back to
catch up. The race was won by Jeremy
Mayfield. (See the Mayfield section)
Pole number five was followed immediately by number six at Sears Point the following week.
Rusty
beat out the sentimental
favorite Kyle Petty. "This is
one
pole I would like to give up to
Kyle", he told pit road reporters.

interview.
On July 7, Rusty won Bud Pole number seven for the Thatlook.com 300. It came, however, on a day when a second tragedy stuck. Kenny Irwin was killed during the morning practice, this coming only 8 weeks after the death of Adam Petty.
Victory number two for the year and number 51 in Rusty's career came at Pocono on July 23rd.
