1985-86: In Coach Johnson's second
year, the Canes came back.
Quarterbacked by Vinny Testaverde, Miami upset #1 ranked Oklahoma during
the regular season and made up for another opening season loss to the
Florida Gators by winning 10 consecutive games. The loss to Florida,
which was at home in the Orange Bowl (pictured right) was the last time
Miami would
lose at home for 59 games, covering a full decade! Miami went into
the Sugar Bowl match with Tennessee with an outside shot at the title.
Their opportunity became a reality when Oklahoma beat #1 Penn State
and #3 Auburn lost to Michigan. However, the Volunteers proved to be
too much for Miami and the loss ended the Canes season at 10-2.
