FROM THE SECRETARY'S DESK

We welcome new member, Shri K.Babu of Rajampet, Andhra Pradesh (Membership No. 3461). Shri Jatinder Singh has become a Life Member (Membership No 2435).

We did not receive sufficient entries for the AICCF Championship and the Special Tournament in memory of Late H.J.Samtani. Hence the deadline for entries for these tournaments is extended to 31 August 2006. Please see p.12 for more details.

We urge our players to enrol themselves in more tournaments. Now there is no restriction in the number of tournaments you wish to play in. The Special Tournament in honour of Late H.J.Samtani will be run in separate sections of 15 players each and there will be 5 prizes: Rs. 1,000/-, Rs. 500/-, Rs. 250/-, Rs. 150/- and Rs. 100/- in each section. We will run up to 10 sections. So this is a golden opportunity for our players to play in a competitive tournament where there is no entry fee. Depending on the response, we could have separate sections for postal and email. There is no minimum rating and even new players are encouraged to join. Details are on p.12.

We appeal to each and every member to enrol their friends who are chess lovers into AICCF. This will benefit the newcomers in many ways. Shri Suresh Mody has elaborated the benefits of correspondence chess in a short article on p.5.

There are a couple of important changes in our policy.

  1. Now it is no longer required to send a self addressed stamped envelope or reply post card when you write to me for any purpose e.g. allocation of new tournaments. It is also not essential to use the form given on the inside back cover; you can just write down all the information on a post card.
  2. Now there is no restriction to the number of tournaments you wish to play in whether postal or email.
