IN MEMORY OF H.J.SAMTANI

First Prize: Rs. 1000/- Second Prize: Rs. 500/-

Following a suggestion of Late President H.J.Samtani, the first AICCF Special Tournament, 1801 was started on 30 September 2002. The aim was to encourage promising players and new members who are yet to reach the Championship level by offering attractive prizes.

We continue this, by announcing the Second AICCF Special Tournament. From now onwards, these will be called the H.J.Samtani Memorial Tournaments.

  1. The HJS Memorial Tournament will be a 15-player single game Round Robin tournament commencing around June 2006 with adjudication date around June 2009 (extendible, if necessary).
  2. There will be a First Prize of Rs. 1000/- and a Second Prize of Rs. 500/-.
  3. Shri P.S.Dabholkar will be the Tournament Director.
  4. There is no entry fee.
  5. There is no qualifying rating.
  6. To be eligible to play, the player must be either a donor/life member or must have paid his subscription up to 31 December 2007. Applications (along with membership dues, if not already paid) must be sent by Registered Post so as to reach the Hon. Secretary, Shri E.G.Meherhomji before 1 May 2006. However participants in the Seventh AICCF Championship, 1507 will not be eligible to play.
  7. A member may apply for both the Seventh AICCF Championship and the HJS Memorial Tournament. However, if he is selected for the Championship he will not be considered for the HJS Memorial.
  8. From the requests received, the top 15 players according to rating on 1 January 2006 (as published in this Bulletin and subject to any correction) will be selected. The Secretary will inform them and follow up by Registered Post if required.
  9. If 15 valid entries are not received by 1 May 2006, the tournament may be started with a smaller number of players, but in such a way as to be compatible with the computerised AICCF tournament system.
  10. This is a postal tournament and the usual AICCF playing rules will apply. However, opponents can mutually agree to play by email after informing the TD. In such a case the time limit will be 60 days per 10 moves.
  11. Ties will be resolved as in the AICCF Championship 1507 (see preceding page).
  12. Players who start the HJS Memorial will not be disqualified for any AICCF Championship starting after 1507, even if the HJS Memorial is not concluded by then.
