FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK |
AICCF continues to march forward. 2004 has been a great year for AICCF. The big event was the ICCF Congress held at Hotel Retreat, Madh Island, Mumbai from 30th October to 5th November.
We would appreciate if you write to us regarding any aspect of AICCF’s functions that need improvement such as allotment of tournaments, email tournaments, decisions of Tournament Directors, content of bulletin etc. Such letters or email should be sent to the President Shri P.M.Dalvi or to me.
As per the provisions of the AICCF Constitution, elections to AICCF management committee are to be done this year. The previous election was held in 1998. Please send in your nominations in prescribed format given on the following page. The elections will be conducted by postal ballot. Anybody requiring a full list of AICCF members’ addresses should contact me by post or Dr. Chatterjee by email. If the list is required by email, it will be sent free of cost, but if you want a printout sent by post, please send me a MO/Bank Draft/Mumbai Cheque of Rs. 50/- in favour of “All India Correspondence Chess Federation”.
Dr. A.B.Surveyor (Mumbai) has contributed a very generous donation of Rs. 5,000/- to AICCF. AICCF thanks Dr. Surveyor. Mrs. H.J.Samtani (wife of late President H.J.Samtani) donated the prizes that were given to winners in the Blitz event held during the ICCF Congress.
Important: In a major shift of policy, AICCF Mgmt. Committee has voted in favour of free use of computer search engines in all AICCF tournaments.
The management committee has decided that all players are allowed to use computers freely to analyse their postal and email games and decide their replies on the basis of computer engines if they want. This is inline with the ICCF rules in force since long. This rule comes into immediate effect not withstanding any instruction to the contrary at the start of the tournament. Thus AICCF has at last stopped its restriction on computer use, a rule which could never really be enforced as it is impossible to verify if a player is using a computer or not. Just because everyone will use Fritz 7 it does not mean the end of creativity. True, there wont be any obvious and not so obvious tactical errors, but then computers are no use in long term strategy, so the better player will still be on the winning side. |
We welcome new life member Shri V.Murugesh from Siddaganga Physically Handicapped Primary School, Tumkur. Mr. Knoll Dinad (South Africa) and Mr. Alan Rawlings (England) have joined as non-resident Life members. G.S.Thakur, Sumit Bhattacharya and Kalapi Trivedi have upgraded to Life membership.
Copies of the ICCF Gold Book are available free, (you need only to send me the postage cost) on first come first served basis. To book your copy send me a reply paid postcard or email and I will inform you the postage cost.
E.G.Meherhomji
Hon. Secretary-cum-Treasurer
