Pétanque is played with heavy steel balls weighing 650g to 800g (or also with balls of other metal of prescribed minimum hardness) with a diameter from 70.5 mm to 80 mm. These "boules" are inscribed with striations whose pattern serves to distinguish one person's boule from another's. Another necessary piece of equipment is a small wooden ball to serve as a jack: in french this is called the "cochonnet" which means piglet. | ![]() |
