Game 4 Summary: Vienna 81 Burke 30

July 22, 1999 - The Vienna Warhawks 13 Year Old Boys County Select Team beat Burke 81-30 at Madison High Middle School in the Fairfax Stars Summer League.

Burke only had five players in uniform for the start of the game.  However, the worst was yet to come.  One of their players went down with a sprained ankle early in the first half, leaving them only four players.  As a result, Vienna took a commanding 55-13 lead at the half.  Vienna offered two of their players to Burke in the second half to make it a more contested game the rest of the way.   And that is was.  The Warhawks only managed to outscore Burke by 9 points in the second half on their way to a 81-30 win.

Vienna had its own misfortune during the game though.  Bill Chappell went down with a broken pinky finger midway through the second half.  This was unfortunate since Bill was scheduled to leave for Florida the next day with his AAU team to play in the National Championships in Florida.  Bill will be in a cast for three weeks with the possibility that surgery might be necessary later.

Vienna had four players score in double figures led by Brendan Hanifin with 15 points followed by Brent Locey (12), Chris McNerney (10), and Bill Chappell (10).  Chappell also led the team in rebounds with 7.  A special recognition  is given to Brian Landry and Dan Pitcher for sacrificing their red and black for a half to play for Burke in an effort to make the game more worthwhile for everyone.  Thank you both for your unselfish contribution.

Vienna's record improves to 4-0 with the win.  The Warhawks play 3 games next week starting on Tuesday July 27th at 7:15pm against Braddock Road at Luther Jackson Middle School.   Several players are out of town, so rest up and be ready.  Go Warhawks!
