2000 Game 18 Summary

February 6, 2000 - The Vienna Warhawks 13 Year Old Boys County Select Team beat Springfield 44-36 to remain undefeated in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League at 11-0.

This was a tough game from start to finish. Both teams took their time working the ball around before getting a good shot for most of the game. Things were a little rough inside as the referees were allowing a little more contact than usual. Sawyer Sams took advantage of the situation though by going 4-5 around the hoop and hitting 3-4 free throws. The Warhawks managed a late surge in the first half to lead 24-19 at halftime.

In the second half, Vienna could never really break the game open even though they led by as much as 10 points at times. Springfield reduced the lead to 5 points a couple of times, but never got any closer.

Sawyer Sams led Vienna with 11 points followed by Brendan Hanifin(9), and Derek Feussner(7). Sawyer Sams also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double double for the game.

Vienna improves its record to 18-0 overall and 11-0 in the FCYBL with the win. The next game is scheduled for Saturday, February 12th against Braddock Rd at Bailey's Community Center at 3:00pm. The Stacy's have the snack. Go Warhawks!
