Schumacher beat Hill in Jerez, but Hill then won at Suzuka in Japan in an extraordinary race which took place in a huge downpour, the race had been stopped half way through and to determine who was the winner the times from each half had to be added together, Hill winning by a few seconds. The last race in Adelaide would have to settle the championship. Schumacher got the pole position, closely followed by Hill. The race got under way, Schumacher leading Hill by a few seconds, both drivers at their very best. Hill was obviously pushing hard, it appeared his efforts had payed off when Schumacher ran wide and hit a wall. Schumacher quickly recovered onto the track but Hill was quick to see Schumacher in trouble and tried to pass the German on the inside of the next corner thinking this may be his only chance. Schumacher closed the door on Hill and the two inevitably collided, with Schumacher going up on two wheels and crashing into tyre barriers. If Hill could keep going he would have been world champion, unfortunately his suspension was irreperably damaged in the collision and could not continue the race. This was truly an amazing end to a quite incredible year.
In 1995 the rivalry between Hill and Schumacher was established once again. Schumacher and his Benetton team were in great form, Hill had a real fight on his hands.
