The Cloone Gaa annual golf classic takes
place this September in Ballinamore golf club. Sponsors and
participants for this event are currently been sought. Further
details will appear on this page nearer the date but in the
meantime further information can be got by e-mail.

Cloone-Aughavas emigrants home coming
festival takes place this summer between August 13th and August
22nd. The activities for the event will be held in both Cloone
and Aughavas and are sure to have something of interest for all.

Congratulations to local man Andy
McGovern who has just launched his new book titled 'They Laughed
at this Mans Funeral'. The humerous book is dedicated to the life
and times of Andy's father Jimmy. Andy, who is a sufferer of
Motor Neurone disease typed this book using his right foot as he
no longer has the use of his arms. The book was officially
launched in Eason's in Dublin in November by well known actor
Mick Lally.

A one quarter million pound extension to
the local Fatima National School in the village has recently
commenced. The project, which is been jointly funded by the local
community and the goverment will be a great boost to the
facilities at the school. The extension comprises two classrooms,
a libary and a staff room. The work is due for completion late in
1999.

The village of Cloone was recently
announced winner of the Super Valu Best Endeavour Award
for the NorthWest region. The award is presented anually to the
town or village in each region which, in the judges opinion, has
made the greatest improvement on its performance the previous
year. The award was announced by the Minister for the environment
Noel Dempsey T.D. at a function in Dublin castle. The award
presented to Cloone was £500 and a commemorative plaque. Well
done to all concerned and keep up the good work!

Congratulations to the Cloone junior
football team the won the County title on October 18th last. The
match was a hard fought contest with Bornacoola with Cloone
getting a few scores mid-way through the second half to see them
through. The team will be presented with their medals on Sun.
Dec. 27th at the clubs annual dinner dance in the Shannon Key
West Hotel in Rooskey.
