Latest Gaufqwi News

This is the place to come for the very latest information about what's going on in the world of Gaufqwi. I humbly include notices of major updates to this site in that description. I also hope to maintain a schedule of Gaufqwi tournaments around the country, either here or (if I get enough response) on a separate page. If you have any news or information that fits into any of these categories, please send it to me so I can include it here.

9/16/97 Meriones ruled legal! The National Gaufqwi League made thousands of American Gaufqwi enthusiast ecstatic by ruling genus Meriones legitimate fodder in official Gaufqwi matches. As this genus contains the common pet shop gerbil that most us use, it is gratifying to have this sanction from the League. I apoligize for taking so long to report on this important development, as the decision was actually made during the meeting at the end of August. I was hoping to be able to update the site from an official bound copy of the rules in case there were other rules changes. Unfortunately, NGL is taking their time getting the new rules published, and they won't even send me an electronic copy. I did finally get them to send me the wording of the new gerbil rule, so the rules section on this site will be updated to reflect that change immediately. As I hear more news from the NGL meeting (they've been unusually closed-lipped this time), I'll post it here.

8/27/97 The National Gaufqwi League begins the general session of it's August meeting today in Anaheim, CA. Troy Halbwood assures me that the issue of which rodents are officially sanctioned WILL be decided. The NGS will also discuss the possibility of recruiting an official celebrity spokesperson at this meeting.

8/5/97 The National Gaufqwi League has announced that discussion of rules changes is on the agenda for it's August meeting. Hopefully we can see the whole Tatera / Meriones issue resolved before the start of the fall season.

8/5/97 I don't have any events on the tournament schedule yet, but I have heard that several groups of Gaufqwi enthusiasts are following the the big summer concert tours (notably The Horde Festival and the Lilith Fair) and playing impromptu games at the venues. Anyone can play, but you are expected to contribute a few gerbils to the game. So if you are going to one of these shows, bring a couple of the little guys along and maybe you can get in a match or two during the boring acts.

8/4/97 FAQ updated to give Gaufqwi pronunciation, in response to an email request from a site visitor.

8/1/97 The Sward, the Internets first web site devoted to the sport of Gaufqwi, comes online!
