Woodies' 1996 Wins

The Woodies have won a total of 12 titles in 1996. This is the most number of titles won by any team since Peter Fleming and John McEnroe in 1979. A wonderful effort guys!!!


During the year, the Woodies have won (in chronological order):

  • The Australian Men's Hardcourt Championships, defeating Bjorkman and Ho.
  • The Comcast US Indoor, defeating Black and Connell.
  • The Newsweek Champions Cup, defeating MacPhie and Tebbutt.
  • The Lipton Championships, defeating E. Ferreira and Galbraith.
  • The Japan Open, defeating Knowles and R. Leach.
  • America's Red Clay Tennis Championship, defeating Baron and Hansen-Dent.
  • The Stella Artois Grass Court Championships (Queen's), defeating Lareau and O'Brien.
  • Wimbledon, defeating Black and Connell.
  • The Olympic Games, defeating Broad and Henman.
  • The US Open, defeating Eltingh and Haarhuis.
  • The Heineken Open, defeating Damm and Olhovskiy.
  • The ATP Tour World Doubles Championships, defeating Lareau and O'Brien.

The World Doubles Championships was the Woodies' 41st tournament win, bringing them one win closer to the record of 57 titles, held jointly by Fleming and McEnroe, as well as Hewitt and McMillan. Todd is on record as saying they can break that record in 2 years.
