Freethrows lift Golden Eagles past Bobcats

Aberdeen Central made 16 of 18 freethrows in the game, including 9 of 10 in the fourth quarter to push past Brookings 47-37 in the Bobcat gym Friday night in ESD action. The Eagles used business-like precision to disect the Bobcat zone defense early in the game, then slowly built the lead to double figures against a man defense right before halftime. The Eagles maintained that lead in the third quarter and had an 11 point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Bobcats did manage a run early in the fourth, cutting the lead to five points about halfway through the period on a basket by Brianne Berseth, who led all scorers with 27 points, but the Eagles maintained their composure and made good decisions down the stretch to force Brookings to foul. Both Laura and Emily Graf had big steals late in the game to help ice the win for Aberdeen Central. The Eagles got balanced scoring as 3 girls scored in double figures: Katie Norman had 13, Laura Graf had 12, and Dawn Sillman had 10. Next action for the Golden Eagles is tomorrow night when they host #3 Pierre in what will determine the top seed in the district playoffs.
