Golden Eagles rally past Bobcats in fourth quarter

After a slow start, the Golden Eagles methodically chipped away at the Brookings lead, finally taking the lead with under 3 minutes to go in the game and held on for a 36-32 win in the Bobcats home gym. Brookings effectively handled the full court pressure of Aberdeen Central early on in the game and led 15-8 after one quarter. The Eagles clamped down on defense after that though, holding the Bobcats to just 4 points in the second quarter and cutting the lead to 19-15 at the half. The Eagles again battled through a tough third quarter to trail by one entering the final period, 25-24. With about 5 minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles went back to their full court pressure, this time with some success, and ran off 6 straight points on transition baskets to take a four point lead with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. The Eagles had a 4 point lead with under a minute to play, but a Brookings basket cut the lead to 2 with under 30 seconds to play. The Eagles held onto the ball and the Bobcats sent Jaime Rice to the line who calmly sank both ends of the bonus to push the lead to its final score of 36-32. With the win, the Eagles improve to 12-2. Next action for Aberdeen Central is tomorrow night when the Eagles host Pierre.
