November 2001 Games

November 10 Auburn at Georgia Bulldogs (Athens) (W 24-17)

Review: This was possibly the best overall performance I've seen this year in terms of looking at the game as a whole. No one group or person had a dominating game but the end result was successful. The defense allowed two big plays but besides that, they stopped the offense when it counted. The end of the game was a great goal line stand regardless of the poor choice of play calling that was done by Richt. Cobb and Campbell together make a good QB duo and it is a nice luxury to have two that you can call on in the case that one is not having a great game then the other might be able to take over and perform well. The star of course was Cadillac Williams who showed why he was such a prized recruit. Look for much more in the future.

Preview: This is another pick (like Florida) where I hope I'm wrong. I think the game will be close. In fact, Auburn plays well in Athens and they have dominated the series recently. I am concerned this time around that their new QB David Greene and new Coach Mark Richt will have these Bulldogs clicking on all cylinders. I fear that Tiger penalties and turnovers will be the difference. Cobb will probably start at QB (he was originally recruited with UGA) but Campbell will probably see a little action. Williams and the running game should be pretty good. In fact, the ofense looks okay. I am concerned that the defense has been exposed for being young and mediocre and will be exploited by the good Georgia offense that defeated Tennessee. I think we will fall a little short in a close one but we will win if we eliminate mistakes or if Georgia commits too many.

Prediction: Georgia 27 Auburn 24

November 17 Alabama Crimson Tide at Auburn (L 31-7)

Review: This was a very disappointing game. This was one of the worst performances that an Auburn Tiger team has put on the field in the 18 years I have been following the team. Tuberville is now 0-2 against Bama in Jordan-Hare (TBowden was 3-0). This will not keep the Auburn faithful happy for long. Auburn needs better production at QB next year. There is a lot of youth on this team and I hope that a year to improve will be the panacea for the Tiger's woes.

Preview: This is the big one, the Irom Bowl that is much anticipated and hyped all year long. This is for bragging rights. Aactually both teams have even more to play for than pride. Auburn can clinch the SEC West with a win and Alabama can continue toward it's goal of getting a bowl bid. These games are hard to predict becasue of the emotion. It's one of those "throw out the record book" games. I think that if Auburn play's it's game and Alabama does as well, teh Tigers shoulf prevail. We have more talent and more weapons and even though we may trail at the end of the third qiarter, we have Damon Duval to win it in the end if needed.

Prediction: Auburn 20 Alabama 17

December 1 Auburn at Louisiana State Tigers (Fightin' Tigers/Bayou Bengals) (L 14-27)

Review: After a disappointing game against Alabama, I had hoped that the Tigers would step things up a notch and play well against LSU. Although the team was not as bad, they still underachiever and continued in some of the same mistakes. Can we pass the pall vertically instead of horizontally? Actually it is a credit to the defense that this game was not worse.

Preview: This game was moved from September 15th following the postponement due to the Terrorist Attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. No Preview in November.
