Chapter 2,Section 1: Political Economy of the Jeffersonian Era

Potential Trends:

1. The various sections of he country (northeast, middle atlantic, southern) differed in many ways, not the least of which were the "products" produced and the attraction to early settlers to establish communities.

2. Owning land offered early Americans the greatest sense of independence.

3. Families were principally responsible for transmitting culture, values and religious beliefs.

4. Laws sanctioned by the courts tended to reinforce community values.

5. A systematic exclusion existed of non-whites and women from the political arena affecting the extension to these groups of basic rights, privileges.
