Part I. Teacher Education Program Advisement

Student advisement in the Camden County College Teacher Education program goes beyond scheduling students for their courses. Through frequent communiques about the latest developments in education and forums which enable the education majors to come together to discuss relevant issues among themselves and with prominent professionals in the field, students are challenged to ponder their eventual role in the education arena.

In your question(s) on the list? Do you have additional questions? Advisement is a two-way street. Students direct the flow of information by formulating the questions most important to them and then seeking answers to those questions.

To unlock the key to your questions, follow these important steps:

 

Step #1 Upon enrolling at the College, choose "Elementary/Secondary Teacher Education" as your major--- Code #3000.

Step #2 As soon as possible, schedule yourself for the New Jersey Test of Basic Skills (The College's placement test).

Step #3 After receiving your test results, contact Dr. Vasta's office (extension 4365) to schedule your initial advisement session.

Step #4 During the initial advisement session with Dr.Vasta, you will register for your initial courses in the program.

 

Part II. About the Coordinator

Dr. Sebastian J. Vasta has been a faculty member at Camden County College since 1976. He holds degrees in Philosophy, English, Reading Education and a doctorate in Curriculum Theory and Development. Since 1993, Dr. Vasta has been responsible for he College's Philosophy offerings. In 1995, Dr. Vasta revived the Philosophy of Education course. Sensing the need to better facilitate transfer of Camden County College students who had aspirations in the field of education, Dr. Vasta proposed in the Fall of 1996 an Associates of Arts degree in Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education. The program was approved in March, 1997.

Dr. Vasta is an avid sports fan. In fact, he claims to be one of the few surviving Philadelphia Phillies fans who will admit to being a Phillies fan! To balance the rigors of academic life, Dr. Vasta loves to relieve tension through landscaping, gardening or any manual labor that gives him the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.
