Please help contribute to research to develop an 800m/1500m Prediction Table

In my coaching career and graduate school studies I have pondered what is a good way to find the best athlete for the 800m Run and then in turn the 1500m Run. The 800m in an unusual event on the track as it uses almost 50% aerobic and 50% anaerobic(Vigil,p. ). Therefore, it requires a special athlete who can use both with efficiency and has the guts to endure the grueling 800 race. Now, I can not measure the size of a runners heart, ie guts, but I can measure other factors that may help me scout out the perfect 800m athlete and create a prediction table to determine what someone can do in the 800m.

In my pursuit to create an 800m/1500m prediction table, I am looking to recruit help from other high school and college coaches like you. What I need from you is for you to test you athletes in three basic tests :

The Balke Test

45 second run

30m Sprint

Then I need their age, sex, 400m P.R., 800m P.R., 1500m P.R. (or mile), their height, weight and if you can, their fat percent (not neccessary if you do not have the proper equipment, I just thought doing their BMI - Body Mass Index, would be interesting and perhaps helpful). Now what I am hoping to do is create a table that will in turn help us as coaches know how to coach our athletes more effectively. So hopefully this will be an educational experience for all of us. Please email me your findings, you may use as many athletes as you would like. To know how to do each of the three tests, click on them above and it will tell you how. If you woul dlike to know full results, leave me your email or mailing address, if you would prefer to use that. I intend to finish this testing by the end of the spring semester. The following chart is an example of two of my athletes and what information I would think would be helpful. I have yet to get their weight or their fat %. I think that the testing that I have done has already helped me to know my athletes better and get a better understanding of their abilities and what they need work on.

Name Age Sex Balke Test distance in meters VO2 Max 45 sec Run (meters) 30m time Ht Weight Fat % 400m PR 800m PR 1500m PR
