30 Meter Dash

This test is to test pure speed. I am not sure this the most indicative predictor of 800m racing, VO2max and anaerobic capacity are probably more important and I intend to weight it as so. However, I think that speed is important. I also think that all three test combined could reveal what the athlete is good at and what we, as coaches, need to work on with that athlete.

How to keep the 30 m dash a standard test:

Measure out 30m off your 100m start line on your track. Pound in a short post there. Then have your athlete start at the 100m start line, either in the blocks or with one hand down on the track. This is similar to a 3 point football stance, but the same way as you would do it in blocks, with one leg further in front of the other and the hand down being the same as the leg that is further back.

Start the watch when they move their hand (you standing at the 30 meter mark) and stop your watch as they hit the post in the ground. Have them run it 3-4 times, taking their best time. It may help to have 2 people take the times and averaging your two times, just to prevent error.
