The Campbell European Cross Country Invitational, October 2nd, 1999 in Buies Creek, NC Homecoming Weekend saw Campbell host the 3rd Annual Euro Cross Country Invitational. The weather was ideal for a cross country meet, as the humidity left the creak to be replaced by a cool, crisp Autumn morning. The Campbell Women Harrier's took full advantage of both the weather and competition to run their best race to date. For the second time this season Heather Lee was the CU top Harrier, as she finished 2nd overall in 18:54. What was as impressive, was how closely she was followed by her teammate's. Tiffany Quinn was on Heather's heels in 3rd place in a personal best time of 18:54. Susie Welty also posted a PR of 18:59 to finish 4th. Tara Quinn was 5th (19:08), Jenny Nickles ran a PR of 19:09 to finish 6th. This was the first time the CU Women's team had three runner's break 19:00 in the same race, along with the sixth and seventh runners being under the 20 minute mark. The CU women easily won the meet. This was, without a doubt, one of the most impressive team performances in CU Women Harrier History. The Men's team also took advantage of both the weather and the home course to continue lowering their times, as they prepare for the TAAC Championships. Andrew Smith raced strongly for the first three miles with the leaders but struggled in the fourth and fifth mile to |
finish 4th in 25:34. Andrew was followed by Junior Billy McGlaughan who was 6th in a PR of 25:59 for the five mile course. The men are showing continued improvement in their racing and workouts as they head into the final weeks of preparation for the TAAC Championships. N.C. Intercollegiate Championships, October 16, 1999 in Charlotte, NC The 1999 NC Collegiate XC Championships was hosted by Davidson College at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte, NC. The weather was ideal for a cross country meet. Both the Men's and Women's teams took full advantage of the conditions. Without a doubt the story for the Camel cause was once again turned in by the Women's team, which turned in an outstanding team performance. A total of seven women posted personal records. The women finished a close second to Western Carolina. This is Campbell's highest ever team finish for either the Men's or Women's XC teams at the NC State Collegiate Championships. Another barrier was broken as well, with six women breaking the 19:00 minute mark for 5000m in the same race. Leading the way for the Camel Harrier's for the second time this year was Tiffany Quinn. Quinn finished 8th overall and posted a PR of 18:22. This finish |
