NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, Furman Univeristy in Greenville, SC on Nov 13, 1999 Furman University once again hosted the NCAA Regional Championships. The top cross country programs of the Southeast (NC,SC,VA and KY) converged upon Greenvilee, SC to battle for a berth to the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, IN on Monday, November 22nd. The Camel Women Harriers had their best showing ever at the Regional Championships by finishing a respectable 14th place out of 29 teams. For the first time this year, Senior Danielle Giorgianni led the way for the Lady Camel Harriers by finishing 59th place with a time of 18:51. Also racing strongly for the Camels was Tiffany Quinn (74th), Susie Welty (77th) and Tara Quinn (83rd). On the Men's side, Andrew Smith improved upon his freshman performance in both place and time. He finished in 40th place with a PR of 31:31 for the 10km course. Senior Mark Ragase also raced strongly to finish 71st with a time of 32:17. Ryan Richmond, making his first Regional appearance, finished in 99th with a PR of 32:56. As this was Cambells last cross country meet of the season, both the Women and Men finished on a high note and completed a very successful season over all. Congrats to both teams. It was a great year to be a Harrier in the Creek. CU Women's Individual Results at 1999 NCAA Regionals (5km)

1999 NCAA Women's Southeast Regional Team Results (5km)
Ramblings from the Coach As I put the last race results into the record books it has dawned on me that this season was one of unprecedented growth and improvement for the Lady Camel Harriers. This campaign was one in which we did not settle for mediocrity in either our training or racing. It was one which was filled with challenges, victories and some dissappointments, but not without a lesson learned. To say that I am proud of my Women's accomplishments somehow does not adequatly sum up on how proud I really am of them. This fall was a turning point in which these yourg ladies redefined themselves as a team and laid a foundation for future success on both the trails and the track. |
Thanks for letting me train with you Ladies! In reviewing my Men's season, in many perspectives I believe we can be just as proud of the way we raced and performed this year in finishing third, just five points away from victory, than when we won the TAAC title last season. To say we are settling for this is a mistake, but to recognize the fact that we raced to the best of our ability on that given day reveals what we need to work and improve upon for next XC season when Campbell hosts the TAAC in the Creek. Let's show the TAAC what Euro XC is all about in the Creek Men! In summary, I would like to share with you the highlights of our season. Five individuals made All-TAAC for the Camels- 3 men/2 women. This is the most ever in CU XC history. The Camel Lady Harriers finished second in the NC State Collegiate Championships. This is the highest Campbell team finish for either men or women's XC. The women finished second at the TAAC, also the best ever Women's finish at a conference championship. Thirteen men and women runners ran personal records (PR) this season. Six CU Lady Harriers broke 19 min for 5km in one race. The first ever before was one in a race. The women finished a respectable 14th in the Southeastern NCAA Regional Championships. This is the highest finish ever for a CU XC team on either the men or women's side. Yep, I am proud of what these Harriers accomplished this season. With the end of the XC season, be on the lookout for the first issue of the Golden Spike in the new Millenium, to kick off another exciting track and field season! For your interest....
