KN Boxers Continue an Old Cal Tradition

Rudy Hoffman, heavyweight, and Sonny Davis, middleweight,
ham it up for the camera, but they were serious varsity boxers.
Kappa Nus have been boxing at Cal as far back as the 1920's,
and have provided many stars for the Golden Bears.

Sol Silverman was a nationally ranked boxer during the early days, and
KN boxers who shined in the 1950's included Davis and Hoffman (above)
Ken Kofman, Jim Moody, Bob Sikora, Ron Taylor, Ken Budman,
and Irwin Feinberg. Perhaps this explains why three KN
mascots were Boxer dogs. (Then again. . . maybe not!)

One of the best boxers on the Cal Varsity was Ken Kofman,
shown here pummeling a Stanford fighter during the "Big Match."
Ken, who had lightning moves, was nearly impossible to hit, and
finished the season undefeated along with middleweight, Sonny Davis.
