Married Henry III, King of England. She was hated by commoners for her lavish tastes and French patronage. She was the most unpopular Queen since the days of the Conqueror, and in July 1263 she was attacked by a mob as she attempted to escape London up the Thames, only to be rescued by her husband's enemy, Thomas FitzThomas, Mayor of London. She was well-educated, high-spirited, and pretty, but not popular with the barons either. Despite this, she and Henry had a happy marriage. |
