BRITISH DEPENDENCY OF SAINT LUCIA

A first English attempt to settle St. Lucia was made in 1605, but it failed due to indigenous resistance. Afterwards the island was contested between Britain and France until, by the Treaty of Paris of 1814, it was finally granted to the United Kingdom. The island became part of the administrative union of the Windward Islands in 1838. __________________________________________________________________________________
