BRITISH COLONY OF NOVA SCOTIA
The French Colony of Acadia was founded in 1600. It was transferred to British control by the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, but it was only after the Treaty of Paris of 1763, that France gave up its last pretentions and that the western part of the territory - which would become in 1784, the separate colony of New Brunswick - actually came under British control. (1) In 1848 the Colony of Nova Scotia was granted internal selfgovernment.
