MONTSERRAT
BRITISH DEPENDENCY OF MONTSERRAT
The island of Monstserrat was settled by English colonists from St. Kitts in 1632.
Afterwards it was contested between England and France, but by the Treaty of Breda
in 1667, it was finally granted to England. (1)
The island became part of the administrative union - later (1871) federal colony -
of the Leeward Islands in 1833.
(1) Except for a brief French occupation from 1782 to 1783.
