BRITISH DEPENDENCY OF GRENADA
A first English attempt to settle the Caribbean islannd of Grenada was made in 1609,
but it failed due to indigenous resistance.
Afterwards it was contested between France and Great Britain until, by the Treaty
of Versailles of 1783, it was finally granted to the United Kingdom.
The island became part of the administrative union of the Windward Islands in 1833
and became its center in 1885.
