In 1926 the Memel - Klaipeda Territory - which till then had been subject to the
German Diocese of Ermland - became a separate Prelature, attached to the Lithuanian
Diocese of Telsiai in a personal union.
From 1939 to 1945, during the period of annexation to Germany, the territory was
again administered by the Bishop of Ermland.
