July 9, 1999 Bush Fears Questions From 11-Year-Old Girl His Money Where Their Mouths Are George W. Bush was so afraid of answering questions he even scripted a question for an 11-year-old girl at a campaign event in Seattle yesterday. Today's Dallas Morning News reports, "The young girl sipping soda outside the Afro Mini Store said Thursday she didn't know who the man coming from Texas was, only that she'd been given a question for him and she wanted to get it right." [Dallas Morning News, 7/9/99] If he's afraid to answer a real question from an 11-year-old, it's no wonder he tried to skip a convention of 6,000 minority journalists. When Bush has been forced to go on the record with journalists, he has: Referred to himself as president of the United States; [Washington Post, 7/2/99] Admitted he's not ready to be president; [Los Angeles Times, 7/1/99] Called Greeks "Grecians;" [CNN, 4/9/99] Mistaken Slovakia for Slovenia; [New York Times, 6/16/99] Called Kosovars "Kosovoians;" [CNN, 4/7/99] Called the East Timorese "East Timorians." [New York Times, 6/16/99] "[George W. Bush is] going out of his way to avoid uncontrolled situations with journalists.
